Saguaro Lake, on the Salt River east of Phoenix, was formed by Stewart Mountain Dam (1930). It covers ~1,200 acres and is up to ~125 ft deep. Surrounded by Sonoran Desert, saguaros, and canyon walls, it offers boating, water-skiing, swimming, kayak and SUP use. Fishing targets largemouth and smallmouth bass, channel and flathead catfish, sunfish, and carp. Managed by Arizona Game and Fish and within Tonto National Forest, the area has picnic sites, camping, trails, and wildlife (bighorn sheep, javelina, coyotes, many birds). Saguaro Lake Marina rents boats and offers fuel, supplies, and tours. Access via SR 87 (Beeline Hwy) and Saguaro Lake Road; some roads are seasonal/rough. Peak visits in spring/winter; summers are very hot—bring water, sun protection, and check conditions.
