Arizona Wild Horses Images For Sale

Arizona is a vast western state with lots of open space and has several locations that support herds of free roaming wild horses or Mustangs. In addition, there are many other free ranging horses in parts of the country size Navajo reservation that I would call semi-wild. Most of the images you will see below were captured in the Tonto National forest outside of Mesa, AZ. This is the home to the famous “Salt River wild horses” who reside in and around the lower Salt River and Saguaro lake. These horses are believed to be descendants of domesticated horses brought over by the Spanish explorers in the 1600s. Its estimated there are currently approximately 300 horses in this herd and they are a popular subject matter for many photographers because of their rugged and striking beauty. These bands of wild Mustangs can also put quite a show on at times with their horseplay and squabbling.
